ACADEMIC OVERVIEW

Throughout our long standing history, Saint Ann School has been dedicated to excellence in education of spirit, mind and body: high standards in academics and traditional Catholic values meeting the curriculum standards of the Diocese of Venice and integrating Florida state standards. Language Arts, Math, Science, and Social Studies are taught in progressively challenging units. Teachers use whole group, peer to peer, small group, project learning, and individual instruction to fulfill curriculum standards and objectives. While other schools offer STEM, our STREAM initiative provides project based learning focusing on the integration of science, technology, religion, engineering, the arts and math throughout the grade levels.

Based on best teaching practices, lessons are developed with particular attention given to differentiation of instruction and integration of technology. Teachers employ hands-on activities and experiential learning in a caring and challenging learning environment for all students.

Through our Resource Department, Gifted Student Program, and Honors Classes for middle school, we strive to meet the needs of all of our students.

Our commitment to developing the whole person is enhanced by our 21st century learning initiatives. Our 1:1 iPad program in grades 5 - 8 allows students to have immediate access to information, increased opportunities for collaboration and communication, and foundational knowledge to leverage the power of technology in and out of the classroom. Our state-of-the-art media center features an iMac computer lab and 3D printer.

We believe exposing young people to art and culture has a significant impact on their development and appreciation of the beauty of God’s world. We value the arts and actively promote our students' creativity through a comprehensive music program allowing students to explore talents in band and choir as well as art and drama, stimulating the imagination and promoting new avenues of self-expression.

There are many opportunities for students to be involved beyond the classroom. Students can participate in the Mini Vinnies service program, National Junior Honor Society, student council, chess club, safety patrol and a host of other extracurricular activities and field trips that create a balance in each child's complete education. We provide physical education and athletic offerings in basketball, cross country, soccer, volleyball, golf, tennis, and track. Our award winning competitive sports program and intramurals develop in students a positive self-image, sportsmanship, respect, and teamwork.

Students have an opportunity to expand their knowledge of other cultures by learning a foreign language. We offer daily Spanish classes for students in grades Kindergarten through grade 7 and Florida Virtual School for grade 8.

Our Catholic identity is at that heart of all we do. We express our faith through prayer, worship, service, and moral living. We acknowledge the spiritual needs of the young person and provide opportunities in faith formation through celebrations of the Eucharist, retreat experiences and academic and extra-curricular service learning opportunities. We are devoted to deepening our understanding of God, others, and ourselves.
